Commissioner Wins Business Award
(9/2/2010)

County Commissioner Tracy Philbeck has won the Heart
of Business Award from the Gaston Regional Chamber.
As well as being a Commissioner in Gaston County,
Philbeck also owns Treescape which is located in the
West District of Gastonia.

Philbeck and his company have been supporters of the
West District and especially the schools.  It was his
support of two different school projects that helped
him win the award.

Annette Carter, Gaston County School Chairwoman
stated that Tracy's involvement with Rhyne
Elementary Hearts Helping Haiti and also the first ever
school yearbook at Woodhill Elementary were just two
of the reasons Mr. Philbeck was chosen to receive the
award.

We would like to congratulate Mr. Philbeck and thank
him for his involvement with the West District and
especially the schools.
School Showing Promise
(8/24/2010)

When this website was established, one of the most
commented on articles that we featured was about
Rhyne Elementary School and the photos we posted
showing the school grounds.  It was not pretty to say
the least.  We looked up test scores and found out
they were not much better.

What we didn't know at the time was there were already
changes taking shape inside of the school that told a
completely different story.

At the urging of School Board Chairman, Annette Carter,
we started looking into what was happening at Rhyne
and we must admit we have been pleasantly surprised.

We sat down with the faculty and staff at Rhyne to find
out exactly what was happening and if the things we
were hearing abut Rhyne were true.

We call the Mayor a Liar (8/3/2010)
Is it fair to call an elected official a liar?  We think it is when that is
what they did.  We have no reason to sugar coat the issue or try to
play nice.  We respect the mayor and the work that she and the city
council do but when you lie, you need apologize and the facts will
bear you out.  Read all of our information by clicking HERE.

The Cost of being All America (7/30/2010)
Something smells fishy with the numbers being thrown
around by the City Council when it comes to the All America
City award.  Read along as we try to follow the money trail for
the award that the mayor claimed would not cost the tax payers.

Our Views

To Speak or not to Speak
Often the Mayor and City Council have wondered aloud why more residents do not attend the city council meetings or get more involved in the city.  We personally have been very involved.  Of course in recent interviews with the Gazette, Mayor Stultz and Councilman Reid refer to us as vocal minorities, detractors, negative, and so on.  SO We can only guess that what the mayor means is that she wished more people would get involved if they agree with her.  If they don't, she doesn't want them involved.  Oh well Mayor Stultz, you don't always get what you want!

City Council Insurance Stipend
We plan to keep this issue on the front burner as we feel the Council's decision to not take action on the issue right now was more of an excuse and several of the members feel it will beforgottenn by election time next year.  We are going to keep reminding people of this issue as it speaks directly to the greater issue of why the council members ran for office in the first place.  Was it for the pay and benefits or to serve the city?  The actions of each member will answer this question.

Hope 4 Gaston
Hope 4 Gaston is gearing up for the fall event and we want to encourage everyone to get involved.  We have not decided if we will be organizing a team as of yet but there are many organizations that need help and you can also contact Hope 4 Gaston directly to find out how you can volunteer. POLL QUESTION

In a recent Gaston Gazette article Mayor Jenny Stultz stated, “If a majority of the public believes I’ve betrayed them I will write a personal check” in regards to breaking her promise that NO tax dollars would be used for the All America City Award.  Our question is this...

Did Mayor Stultz betray the public?

YES
NO

Previous Poll

The controversy regarding insurance for the City Council has generated a lot of news in the past few months.  The Council members that do not receive insurance, instead get a payment of $621.00 a month in addition to their regular pay.  The City Council has delayed making any decisions on this matter and of the Council Members that receive the payment, only Brenda Craig has publicly stated that she will refuse the money.  The remaining Council Members that receive the payment are Dale Burkett, Keith Tidwell, and Walker Reid.

Here is our question:

With this information, are you more likely or less likely to vote for a candidate that still receives the pay in lieu of insurance?

I will NOT vote for anyone that accepts the money  64%
I am less likely to vote for someone that accepts the money 36%
I am more likely to vote for someone that accepts the money 0%
accepting the money does not affect my vote 0%
