Where is Gastonia spending YOUR tax dollars. Take a look.

We realize that our figures below are not totally accurate. In fact, they are probably too low considering we have no record of what the city staff and elected officials do with all of the budget items that are not clearly labeled. Anyway, having made a disclaimer against our accuracy, we would like to invite anyone who knows of something we have left off to contact us. We will be happy to add or subtract in an effort to get the most accurate figure possible.

| There are some explanations that should be given. Some of the money for these projects comes from a special tax district or the Hotel Occupancy Tax (among others) that stipulate how the taxes can be spent. Some of it is grant and bond money as well. When you boil it all down, however, it is all tax money that came from a citizen's pocket or a guest in Gastonia. Our purpose is to question the spending habits of the city regardless of where the money came from. Keeping in mind there are a lot of things we have not added to the list yet and we have no idea how much extra should be added for all of the studies, traveling, management, subsidies for facilities not yet built, and more. Your money. How do you feel about all this? Please send us your thoughts by using the contact page. |
